Enjoying spring

Weekly Wrap 26/16

This weeks weather has been really nice so we got to work on sowing grass in our garden & started some new vegetables (watching zucchinis grow is wild!). We also helped out a friend of ours with some yardwork.

Now that we no longer need to go for a run every other day, we took our bikes out for a trip to the danube island and spent lots of time just relaxing. Freeing up this much time also gave us back opportunities to do things with our friends so we spend last night playing board games. If you need a fresh game to play, we can recommend this DIY version of Magical Athlete.

On the homelab side of things, Piraeus was working well so far but the snapshots are not as stable as I had wished for. They sometimes cause the node to retain orphaned snapshots, leaving it tainted and slowly causing disk pressure. For now I've reduced the snapshot interval to reduce the frequency of this happening but I'm looking into SeaweedFS which would allow me to implement storage tiers & offload cold files to object storage. If this works well, I could also migrate existing S3 consumers (like GoToSocial or Mimir) to point to Seaweed first which would speed up operations a lot.
